Does anyone watch that crazy show on TLC about the Duggar family with 16 children (actually, I think they are up to 17 now). Anyway, the Woolleys could be giving them a run for their money!
The retrieval went great this morning! They were able to "hunt" 16 eggs! We will not know until tomorrow how many of those will fertilize, but for now we are encouraged! The more eggs we start off with, the greater chance we have that one will fertilize!
Thank you all so much for your prayers and encouragement. I was very nervous this morning, but I truly felt God's presence in the operating room.
I learned that it is much harder to be the patient than it is the nurse! Things that I do so effortlessly in my daily routine are actually very intimidating when you are on the receiving end. I think this experience will help remind me to slow down and explain things well to my patients. When I got on the operating table, there was a lot of commotion with doctors and nurses swirling about to do their job. It was much like what I do when prepping a patient for a c-section. As I laid there, I started to get very anxious, but just prayed for comfort and got an overwhelming sense of calmness.
As they administered the anesthesia, she said "sweet dreams, see you in recovery." I went to sleep and the next thing I remember was the doctor standing over me in recovery, telling me that we have 16 eggs. We were able to go home about 45 minutes later (via a quick stop at Kolache Factory for my favorite ham and cheese croissant). I feel pretty good, not nauseated at all, just a little bit sore and crampy. Thanks for the heating pad tip, Erica. It is helping tremendously! Rusty has moved a tv into the bedroom for me and I think we are going to spend the afternoon being lazy and watching movies.
Thanks again for all of your prayers and encouragement! They have been such a comfort to me today.
Now, we are just praying for our little babies that are being created today by the embryologist, Dr. Wang (well, by God of course just via Dr. Wang)! Isn't that crazy? My baby is in a petri dish!
Here are a few pictures from the morning...
I cannot think of a better way to celebrate the day that Christ conquered the grave and gave us all life! What a perfect example of His grace and sovereignty! Easter will always be a special reminder to us of His gift of life!
