Reminder

Last year, our church read Streams in the Desert by L.B. Cowan as a church wide devotional. I haven't looked at the book in months, but last night I pulled it out of my drawer to use as a cover for my very bright (but wonderful, honey!) new ipod dock/alarm clock that Rusty bought me for Easter. For 'some reason', I decided to pick it up this morning and thumb through it. Sorry folks, but I don't believe in coincidence and I know that today's entry was one that I needed to be reminded of. It's a little bit long, but bear with me. I have to share this because I know that there are some of you that need this reminder today too.

"He did not waver... regarding the promise... being fully persuaded that God had the power to do what he had promised." (Romans 4:20-21)

Scripture tells us that Abraham, "without weakening in his faith,...faced the fact that his body was as good as dead" (v. 19). He was not discouraged, because he was not looking at himself but at almighty God. "He did not waver...regarding the promise" but stood straight, not bending beneath the staggering load of God's blessing. Instead of growing weak, his faith grew stronger, exhibiting more power, even as more difficulties became apparent. Abraham glorified God for His complete sufficiency and was "fully persuaded that God had the power to do what He had promised."

The literal translation of this passage from the Greek expresses the thought in this way: God is not merely able, but abundantly able, bountifully and generously able, with the infinite surplus of resources, and eternally able "to do what He had promised."

He is the God of limitless resources- the only limit comes from us. Our requests, our thoughts, and are prayers are too small, and our expectations are too low. God is trying to raise our vision to a higher level, call us to have greater expectations, and thereby bring us to greater appropriation. Shall we continue living in a way that mocks His will and denies His Word?

There is no limit to what we may ask and expect of our glorious El Shaddai- our almighty God. And there is no way for us to measure His blessing, for He is "able to do immeasurably more that all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work in us" (Ephesians 3:20). A.B. Simpson

I would have you here all day if I try to write all of the other passages that I 'randomly' thumbed through and landed on, but let me just share a few of the scriptures that began the entries:

"He knows the way I take." (Job 23:10)
"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life." (Psalm 138:7)
"Faith is being certain of what we do not see" (Hebrews 11:1)
"God, who does not lie, promised!" (Titus 1:2)
"The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me." (Psalm 138:8)
"After waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised." (Hebrews 6:15)

You can imagine that each of these entries are beautiful descriptions of God's unfailing nature. He is present, He knows my trouble, He walks with me, He is faithful, He has a plan for me and He will fulfill His promises.

He has never promised me that I will be a mom, but He has promised to give me an abundant life and to prosper me. He has promised to carry me through whatever lies ahead.

And that promise is greater than anything that I could ever ask of Him- even being a mom.

Jenni ~ I've been reading this devotional for over 10 years and it never ceases to amaze me how the Lord works with each entry on that specific day, just when I need to hear it most! I actually used that same verse in my post today!

The Lord is faithful & He is good. What would we do without our Father?!

Praying for you today!
