Unfortunately, babies do not know when it is a holiday, so there is never a day when my "office" is closed. They are still born whether it is Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Memorial Day.
For the first 4 years of my nursing career, I had to work weekends, nights, and holidays like most nurses. But, after I got married, it was tough to be away from Rusty and miss out on so many activities. Last year, I was blessed to be able to take a PRN (part-time) position that doesn't require any weekends or holidays! I will occasionally work a weekend shift for someone else, but knowing that I am not required to is so great!
Anyway, my college friend Brad celebrated his birthday yesterday. I had it written on my calendar, to remember to wish him a "Happy Birthday" except I wrote it over the little Memorial Day label. So, I didn't realize it was a holiday and voluntarily signed up to work! It isn't considered a holiday as far as pay is concerned, so I didn't make any extra money. The worst part- Rusty had the day off! So, he was sitting at home while I worked! I gave him a long list of Honey-dos though and he did ALL of them! He was so sweet. He did decide that he doesn't like being a housewife though!
So, I definitely didn't forget Brad's birthday. Every time someone asked what we were doing for Memorial Day, I remembered that because it was his birthday, I had to work! The best part of the story....my patient named her baby Bradley!
We did get to relax on Saturday though. Rusty played golf in the morning and then we went to the pool with our friends, Robert and Kim. It was Jackson's first trip to the pool! Other than a slight problem with the swim diaper (how were we supposed to know that if you wear it on the car ride over, it will overflow!!), we had a great time!
