I am sure that you are all tired of hearing about our anniversary by now, but I just have to brag on my sweet husband.
To give you a little background... although he is very well intentioned, he doesn't always have the best follow throughs. It has been a joke around our house since our first anniversary. The traditional gift is paper, so I made him a construction paper book of all of my favorite things about him. Then, the last page told him to go downstairs for his real present- a new set of golf clubs. His present for me? Flowers, which didn't even have a paper card! In his defense, we were planning on taking a very nice trip the next week to celebrate our anniversary and that was to be our gift. However, he quickly learned that when I say, "no gifts" I mean, "gifts."
He made up for it with a card every day on our trip! :)
Last year, he did better and bought several cotton things (including cotton candy, isn't that clever?)
But this year, he outdid himself. I was so impressed with the time and creativity that he put into my gift and I just had to share.
He knew that he would have to work late, so we decided to just eat at the house. He wanted lasagna, so I had it all waiting for him when he got home. I set the table with our china, had candlelight and jazz music playing. I also made one of his favorite desserts- yellow cake with chocolate icing. I jokingly told him that this setup symbolized our three years and many more to come. He said that he was relieved that it did not symbolize "You, me and Hobby- with all of our future children." I mean we want children, but not 13!On the table, I had his gifts waiting. I gave him a new wallet and belt to symbolize the traditional leather gift. It was weird to see those brown boxes with red bows that I love so much. In this house, those boxes usually have a prize for me inside! :)
My set up looked lame compared to what he had in store for me after dinner. I changed into my pjs to get ready for some romantic tv (Season 3 of The Office on DVD- it doesn't get any better than that) and this is what was waiting for me....Each bag had a different gift that began with the corresponding letter and he had written me a sweet note on the back of each letter.
L- Lotto tickets (we won 2 bucks!)
E- The 2 E's went together for Evening Entertainment. He wrote me a note saying that he knows that he always hogs the tv and bought me 2 chick flicks that he will watch with me whenever I want. (Of course, whenever means as long as there is no college football on!)
A- An evening out on the town- tickets to see Wayne Brady at Jones Hall.
T- Two of my favorite things- Sour Patch Kids and a gossip magazine!
H- This one was a tear jerker for me. I won't give the specifics, but he wrote a precious note about the kind of Husband that he wanted to give me, but wasn't always able. But, he did give me his promise to stand with me and love me, no matter what we face. This is the Willow Tree statue that means Promise. It looks just like a picture that we have of us at our wedding.R- Beautiful red Roses (That he had delivered to his office, by the way! I thought that it was so sweet that he was willing to carry all of this out of his office downtown and not be embarrassed!)
Thanks for a great anniversary, babe. You are the best and I look forward to many more with you! I need to start planning next year so that I can top this one!

Great job, Rusty.
ok..WOW! that is SO thoughtful, you have yourself a good man!!!!
I am VERY impressed :)
Also, I recognized those fancy brown boxes right away. Seems he has himself a good woman too :)
Well played, Rusty! The thoughtfulness behind your gift is amazing and makes it all the more special.
And, Jennifer, you did well too! The fancy dinner, the fancy presents...you are a good woman!
Congrats again! Let's double-date again soon!!
So what's wrong with 13 kids? Just joking...we only want 4 or 5 ourselves! It was a lot of fun having 13 kids in our family, but I would never actually want to raise that many myself! Rusty did VERY well!! I am going to share his ideas with Aaron :) Maybe they will rub off on him!
I don't know where you guys find the time! i am glad you had a wonderful anniversary!
I have been out of town and I am just catching up on your blog. I'm glad that I haven't put on my makeup yet. The previous post is making me cry--again!
So totally thoughtful! Last year, Eric picked cotton from a farm out in Katy and included them in my gift. Hope that you had a great weekend.
All I can say is "Wow!" Congratulations on your 3 years! :)
