It's been a long night, but for right now, Rusty is doing better. They finally got us into a room about 6:30pm and Rusty was finally able to lay down, which made him feel MUCH better. They drew the initial blood cultures and lab work, but did not get the antibiotics started until after 11pm. I have learned that it is much harder to be the wife, when I can't be the nurse. I get so frustrated with the way that they are doing things and have a hard time just sitting on my hands. The doctor called about 11 to check on him and was pretty frustrated with the delay. He said "You should have just started the IV for them!" Trust me, I wish I could have!
Neither of us got much sleep last night, as Rusty's fever continued to spike and then drop. He spent the night either shivering or sweating profusely. Then, there was the vomiting. Oh, how he hates the vomiting!
The doctor stopped by this morning and said that his white blood cell count has elevated since his initial blood work, but that is not too surprising when you consider that he got the antibiotics so late. He did say that the bacteria is obviously in his bloodstream and we need to treat it aggressively. If there is not much improvement soon, he is going to bring in a consultation with an Infectious Disease doctor to consider how to change his treatment.
He also said that we will be here a while and that Rusty should not plan on going back to work this week, which has Rusty pretty bummed. He is already going pretty stir crazy in this room!
Thank you all for continuing to pray!

We prayed for Rusty last night after seeing your post on Facebook. Sounds like things got pretty bad - so sorry! Praying for a quick recovery and strength for you both.
I'm so sorry that you are having to go thru this ordeal. I pray that the antibiotics kick in ASAP & that Rusty will feel LOTS better soon!
Like I always say, "It's always something!!". Hopefully, he can just try to relax and take care of himself. You both have been through so much. But, what doesn't kill ya, makes ya stronger, right? God only gives trials to people that can handle them. There will be joy and happiness soon. let us know if we can help please. love, kim and robert
