Happy Birthday, Erica!
Saturday night, we had a party to celebrate one of my favorite
people in the whole world, Erica!
It was a great night and I think that she was truly surprised and honored to have so many people gathered there to celebrate her! In my opinion, the best birthday gift that you can give someone is to let them know how much they are loved!
Tami made the cake for us and as always, it was delicious!
Thanks again, Tami! It turned out beautiful!
Today, I got to spend a little more time with Erica for a lunch date on her actual birthday. As I drove home, I couldn't help but think of her birthday just one year ago. She spent her day frantically making a scrapbook so that they could be considered for a possible placement. It seems like just yesterday that we were walking that road with her and Colin, praying and desperately asking God to provide them with a child. I was disappointed for them when each case did not work out.
But as always, God had bigger plans! The most amazing little boy was about to be born, just one month later. Their son, Nate- the child that God had planned for them long ago.
I am reminded again today of God's faithfulness. I often am disappointed and frustrated with God. I wonder what He is doing, why He isn't moving, why He doesn't work this out for me.
But, Nate is my gentle reminder. Without those other disappointments, we would have all missed out on being apart of this amazing little boy's life.
God does have big plans for us and His ways are better than ours. He is good, He is faithful, He knows our hearts and He hears out cries.
And even when I cannot see His hand, I am reminded that He is moving. My prayer is that I will be patient enough to wait for His best.

I am officially crying...at work...thanks a lot! ;)
I have a few treasured things in life that remind me of God's faithfulness - the pic line scar on my husbands left forearm and my sweet son are two such examples. Each time I see them I am reminded that God is ALWAYS faithful. What a blessing to know that Nate can be that reminder for you too! He has already done so much in his short 11 months, just imagine what God has in store for the rest of his days!!
There are no words to adequately describe your friendship...none. I love you more than words can express! XOXO
P.S. Ha Ha Ha!! My comment beat Sharon's this time!! ;)
You are so sweet! Tami's cake looked amazing (of course). I am guessing you didn't eat sushi :-)
I have read about Erica before on your blog and after seeing her picture, I just realized I met her at the Pioneer Woman cookbook signing, she was sitting near me and we were all chatting! Too funny.
Happy Birthday Erica!
Nate is such a reminder to me too! I can't believe it's been a year since we had all the scrap book stuff all over my dining room table frantically trying to make it perfect. Wow! So many wonderful things have happened since then...
Thanks for the reminder of being patient for God's best! I needed that :)
You are such a good friend, Jennifer! That was so sweet to read. You are such a wise woman. I am jealous of your child-to-be. :)
Jennifer,
I just loved reading your blog. I am so grateful for your honesty and your faith. The last couple days have been rough for me as I wait to start my next fertility cycle treatment and reading what you wrote today was what I needed. Praying for God to bless you in His time and that you patiently wait for that moment.
