Because my mom died when I was so young and she was sick so much of my life, I have very few "happy" memories of her. So, the ones that I do have are precious to me.
One of those fond memories is celebrating May Day with her. She and I made a heart shaped basket woven out of construction paper and filled it with flowers. Then we went and hung it on our neighbor's door with a anonymous note that said "Happy May Day."
It may seem like a silly memory to have, especially since I can't even remember what I ate for breakfast today. It is one that I treasure though. Not only because it was a happy day, but because I remember learning about loving others. I love the idea of bringing a smile to someone's face and not getting an ounce of credit for it!
Another random memory that I have is ringing the service bell in the framing department at Hobby Lobby and then running away. My mom made me go and apologize to the man for ringing the bell when I did not need his help! That sticks out in my mind because it was lesson to me in honesty. I guess I have a little of her in me, because I am such a rule follower! I would definitely make my child do the same thing!
It is a reminder to me that the children in our life are watching. You never know what lessons they are learning, even when you don't think that you are teaching them.
So, "Happy May Day!" I hope that you have the opportunity to do something today that makes another person smile... just because you can!

Such sweet memories of lessons learned from your mom. My three lived with me for 18+ years and they would probably tell you the only thing they learned from me was "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all!" I think they learned that lesson well because many times I would ask them if they liked something or had anything to say and they sat there with their mouths closed!
Happy May Day to you too! What beautiful sweet memories. Thanks for sharing!
What a beautiful tribute to your mom. I hope that you will be able to build such wonderful memories with little ones soon.
What a sweet memory of your mother, and a great way to teach children to be thoughtful and bring joy to others.
Hope you had a beautiful May Day!! Love you!!
So, I saw Kara Gordon the other day and she told me your link was on her blog. I haven't seen or heard from you since high school! Wow, it's been a long time. I love checking old friends blogs, makes me feel like I still know them. I hope all is well!
