Oil Stinks too.

Right after we found out that our trip to Guatemala was canceled due to a volcano erupting, we heard that oil made it to shore in Gulf Shores, AL where we were scheduled to go the next week.
(Free tip of the day... If you like your town free of disaster, please refrain from inviting the Woolleys to come visit.)

We were not going to let the oil keep us from the tradition of family in Gulf Shores, so we packed up and headed out! Thankfully, we booked a house on the bay this year because it was the only one we could find that had an elevator, which we needed for one of our family members. It turned out to be a huge blessing because the bay was barricaded and stayed oil free! We were able to take our boat and keep it docked at the house. Though walks on the beach were a little bit oily, it really didn't affect our trip too much!

The elevator in the house was such a blessing!

Obama came to town while we were there to assess the damage.
This was my welcome for him that day.

We spent a lot of time together as a family, playing and relaxing!
Going to dinner:

Celebrating Birthdays:

Fishing:

Playing on the boat:

Playing High Nine and Scrabble:

Watching sunsets:

Eating:

Crab Claw Gumbo... or Toenail Soup (as I prefer to call it!)

We also took advantage of the opportunity to do a few family photos:

I tried to teach Addison about crabs living in shells ad how they move into a bigger shell when they outgrow theirs. She said "Tia, you are telling me a story!" So, we went and collected some crabs from the ocean. She loved watching them crawl around. So, what is a Tia supposed to do? I had to go buy her a crabitat and a little crab named Sebastian. But somehow Sebastian ended up coming home with me. In case you were wondering, crabs like to eat popcorn, hot dogs and grapes. I've learned more about hermit crabs then I ever cared to know.

It looks like it was a fun trip! I loved the Scrabble part. I am a Scrabble addict! Did you know "Nobama" was going to be there? Is that why you brought the shirt or did you buy the shirt that day?

We just spent the week in Destin, FL where the oil has arrived as well! Those nasty little tar balls look like bunches of poop washing up on the shore of a GORGEOUS beach...so sad! Glad you guys still had a great time, despite the nastiness - so did we! :)
